Changing your occupation

In case you are an engineer and intend to change your employer in Japan while your status is valid: in most cases you only need to apply for an extension before your work permit expires.  It is advisable to make sure in advance that the new employer's financial situation, business type, your skill and experience as an engineer all meet the requirement by the Immigration.

When applying for a work permit for your new job, you need to submit the following.
A certificate of resignation
Reason of changing occupation
A certificate of tax withheld from the prior company
Contract of employment
Copies of the recipient company registration and a statement of profit and loss
Two photos (2.5cm x 2.5cm)
Other

In case changing to a different field of occupation, such as an engineer changing to become an interpreter or entrepreneur, you need to apply for change of status.
